Evolution of a Radio Show

As you can see from the new SLUG ad pictured above, KRCL and Circus Brown have reached a mutual agreement to move me over to Friday's at 8pm. I'm really excited about this, so this upcoming weekend the 24th will be my last Saturday program, sadly I'll be retiring the Not a Side Show theme song that Gianni (He hosts Dirty Boulevard on KRCL 10:30 Thursday nights) wrote and performed for me. I fucking love that song! Its sad to see it go, maybe all you musicians out there should come up with a new theme song and submit it to me!

Along with the theme song I'm also retiring the name 'Not a Side Show'. When the show was on at 3 a.m. on Monday mornings it was a side show, it was just me and a couple listeners and I was trying my hardest to make a dent in the wee hours and live up to the show title. When I moved to 1 a.m. Friday mornings it was still me, a few more people and I was stirring up trouble making sure people knew this wasn't some silly Side Show. June of '05 was when I started on Saturday's, and I think with the help of a bunch of bands and some nice media outlets it really became Not a Side Show.

The format of my show isn't going to change, there will still be a live performance every Friday, and you'll still be hearing the music you've grown to love and enjoy on Not a Side Show. The show's just going to be earlier, better for you to pre-party with instead of fighting at the party about turning off some lame music and turning KRCL on. Connery and I are really excited to be on earlier in the evenings and on Friday which pretty much gives us our weekends back. More camping and travel time sounds good to me.

Coming up on the 24th of January, the last episode of Saturday's Not a Side Show, Trebuchet will be in studio playing live. They played back in the Spring of '07 and one of the songs from that recording ended up on the Death By Salt III compilation from SLUG Magazine. It made me so proud of those guys.

Also performing on the 24th I<36335 that's right folks, no more h8 for bee's just love!

Please tune in at 10 p.m. and enjoy the show. I've got CD's, Records, and DVD's I'll be giving away throughout the show! Then Join me on January 30th for my first episode on Friday Evening. Big Gun Baby will be live in the studio, and then on Friday February 6th Aye Aye will by my special guest. Also coming up in February Mindstate once again and hopefully I'll nail down a date with Tolchock Trio. Cross your fingers!

Thanks for listening, I hope the change to Friday's doesn't keep you from hearing some of the greatest local and international music on the terrestrial airwaves, the show's just going to get better!

I guess I'm really going to have to face it, I'm getting old. Last night Connery and I were working on the next Snackbox album, its going to be ready to take to the mastering studio on Monday! We worked up at KUED at the U and didn't get finished until really late around 1 in the morning. I took 4th south all the way to the 15 and just as I was passing Pioneer Park the red & blues came on in my mirror.

I knew exactly why I was being pulled over, my plates expired 2 weeks ago, I had taken care of the safety and emissions but still hadn't mailed in the money and paperwork. I pull over, and start going through my jockey to get the papers, I hadn't turned down my stereo or even put the car in park yet and the cop was right there at my window tapping on the glass. Whoops. Well I put it in park, turned off Wreckless Eric, and rolled down the window.

"Do you know why I pulled you over tonight?" He asked with a smile, damn a smile?

"Yeah, plates expired, here's my paperwork I just haven't mailed it in yet, sorry."

He took the papers, flipped through them, "Have you been pulled over for this before?"

"Nope, here let me give you my drivers license..."

He let out a little chuckle, handed the papers back, then patted me on the shoulder and said "Don't worry about that, have a nice night."

This whole thing took place in a little over a minute. I know because I looked at my clock it said 1:30 when the lights went on, I pulled away at 1:32. As I pulled away I clicked the radio back on, cranked up Wreckless Eric, and started laughing. I guess I'm no longer a rebellious young adult, I'm a harmless thirty-something, and in the wee hours of the night I'm not even worth a shakedown.

I called Connery up on the way home and told him about what just happened, we both laughed about it, hell if it'd been him I'm sure the police would have loved to harass the youngster. I know when I was 19 and got pulled over I was getting searched, so was the car, and I was possibly being accused of several possible crimes in the area. Maybe I just looked and smelled like trouble 16 years ago more then I do now. I think that cop was a pretty cool policeman, I like good cops, he knew there were much more important things to be doing in the Pioneer Park district, I'm really glad it took him just a few seconds to realize that.

Well enough chit-chat, lets PODCAST! This last week Novaburn came down to KRCL and jammed some sweet tunes. Their podcast is up now for your enjoyment. I also went back through my archives and busted out a couple shows that I really, REALLY liked from 2008, the first one is from June 21st, Palace of Buddies is the band really cool stuff.

The third free downloadable podcast is a very unique one, I had my first hip hop performance on Not a Side Show Mindstate blew up the airwaves back on July 12th. Get all these podcasts here or just search your iTunes podcast directory and ENJOY!

Coming up this weekend on January 17th Cavedoll will be playing live in the KRCL studios!

Stereotype of a Podcast

Damn.

What a way to end a year and start a new one. Hope everyone got through the Holiday's unscathed. Time to start losing weight, quit smoking, stop wearing diapers, or if you're like me time to swear off resolutions.

This last weekend I had a band stop by Not a Side Show for their second appearance, a different kinda band, Stereotype. This band consists of Vel, LJ, Ivan, and Josh, 3 Serbians and a Korean, very international. Funny interview and them playing live on the air, plus their new single "Olympic City" which was released in 2009 and debuted on NASS this weekend.

As always you can listen to the podcast all you want for free!!!

Coming up this weekend on NASS - NOVABURN

Ok, I'm going back searching for a new place to buy or rent or something.
